Changes to desktop interface

Viewing items in a store on the desktop has changed for the worse. Please have an option to view items the old way. Half the screen is useless to me (home etc. on the left, categories on the right). Only 48 items are now viewable per page and they are in a straight line down making browsing completely obnoxious. Please have an option of (at least) 96 items per page, at least four across and have the sidebars collapsible for people who don’t use them.

Thank you to everyone for the continued feedback.

We appreciate hearing from our community as we continue building the future of comic book collecting at HipComic. Let me share some context on our recent changes and highlight what's coming next:

    Why We Made These Changes

Over the past two years, we analyzed hundreds of thousands of user sessions and found that buyers were clicking into individual listings just to check shipping costs and seller information before making decisions. The new layout surfaces that critical information upfront, reducing unnecessary clicks and speeding up the browsing experience.

We also optimized for mobile and app experiences, where the overwhelming majority of our collectors are. These changes additionally help bring together our experience across our Marketplace, My Collection app, and Price Guide.

    What We've Already Improved

We built this version based on extensive buyer research, and we're actively listening to your feedback. Based on what we've heard from members right here, we've already shipped:

✅ Right-click Functionality restored on Bid Now buttons
✅ Responsive Image Sizing that adjusts automatically to your screen dimensions
✅ Live Bidding View Enhancements optimized for auction events (more details below)

    What We’re Currently Reviewing

Based on your feedback, we're also reviewing the following:

    🔨 View Toggle Options

    🔨 Collapsible Sidebars

    🔨 Enhanced Pagination Controls

    🔨 Per-Page Item Selector

Live Bidding View: Built for Auction Power Users

If you're actively bidding through auction events with hundreds or thousands of items, our Live Bidding View is designed specifically for you. This is our high-performance auction interface that many members may not know exists yet.

    Live Bidding View Features:

    • All items in an auction event on a single, continuously-loading page

    • Compact, dense layout designed for rapid scanning

    • Real-time price updates and countdown timers

    • Current item closing highlighted at the top for easy tracking

How to access it: Click the red "Live Bidding" button from any listing page - it appears 1 hour before the event starts closing and remains available throughout. We're adding direct links from event pages in our next update to make this even easier to find

Thanks for being part of this community and helping us build a better platform.

Hi Bryan! Thanks for your feedback. We understand how important layout and the browsing experience are, especially on desktop.

We’re actively collecting input on the new interface and will share your suggestions with the product team, including increasing the number of items per page, improving grid layout, and making sidebars collapsible. Your points are all valid and we appreciate you taking the time to share.

    Latest upgrade difficulties

Just a note to say that I am finding the new layout difficult.

I use this sight primarily to engage in auctions, and with the latest upgrade browsing the auction has become frustrating. Too much space is wasted on items not related to the auction and EVEN WORSE when I’m looking through a specific auction (for example, Mark’s Comics) when I finally can get through a few pages I’m seeing items populate the auction FROM OTHER SELLERS and I believe from other auctions. This got tiring very quickly and is off-putting.

Also, in general the page navigation has always been poorly designed - why not let me choose the 48/96 items and last/next page buttons at the TOP of the page as well as the bottom.

I really hope that at the very least you revert your site back to its previous design. This is a huge step in the wrong direction for us who have enjoyed the auctions.

Hi Kevin! Thanks so much for the detailed feedback. We really do appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We’re actively collecting input like this as we continue refining the new layout.

I’ll also share your comments on navigation and layout (like the item count and pagination controls) with the product team. We know how important auction usability is and are committed to improving the experience.

Thanks again for being part of the community, and we’ll follow up as we make progress here.

      HI Kevin,

Just to clarify, when you are viewing a specific seller’s store or a specific auction event, you will not see any auctions from other sellers or events, as you noted above.

When viewing any auction listing, within the top section, you can directly click on the “Seller’s Other Items” link:

which will show you additional items from that specific seller - and only that seller.

If that auction is part of an event, you can also click to view the rest of the auctions in that specific event - and only that event:

Just keep in mind that individual sellers can run their own events, but HipComic also runs site-wide events which feature multiple select sellers. So when browsing an auction event, while you’ll only see items from that auction event, if it’s a site-wide event, there will be multiple sellers included.

      New site layout is terrible!

The new layout for the website is terrible. Single vertical listings as opposed to horizontal columns of multiple listings per row make browsing frustrating. Also removing the ability to show 96 items per page. Additionally, the ability to right click on a listing, to view in a new tab/window appears to be disabled. I’ve purchased 1,000+ comics through Hip in the last 2 years. All of these factors will no doubt be a deciding factor in whether I bother visiting and purchasing through Hip in the future. You make it harder for me, you lose me as a customer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this detailed feedback, and thank you for being such a loyal customer over the past two years - 1,000+ comics is incredible, and we truly value your business!

I completely understand your frustration with our recent layout changes. These changes were made based on feedback we were hearing from many buyers about specific pain points - particularly that they had to open individual listings just to compare shipping prices, check seller information, or add items to their watchlist. The new layout allows us to display all of that information directly in the search results, which we hoped would save time and reduce the number of clicks needed when browsing.

Good news on the right-click issue - you should still be able to open listings in new tabs. Try right-clicking on either the listing image or the title itself. You can also hold down the Control key (Command on Mac) while clicking to open in a new tab.

I hear you on the 96-items-per-page option - that's valuable feedback we're actively considering for future updates.

Your feedback about these changes affecting your purchasing decisions is exactly what we need to hear. Would you be open to sharing more about your browsing habits? Understanding how customers like you use the site helps us make better decisions going forward. For example, what information do you typically need that isn't visible in the new search results?

Thanks again for speaking up - customers who care enough to give detailed feedback like this are the ones who help us improve.

Command + click doesn’t work on your website on Mac (Sequoia 15.7.1)

        • Safari 26.0.1:

Safari settings: Enable content blockers unchecked, Pop ups allowed.

Control + Click pops up an option to open in New Tab/Window on Title and Image (no automatic click-through though), but not Bid Now; which is how I normally access the auction.

Right Click does work on Title and Image, but not Bid Now.

Also checked (all same results as Safari):

        • Firefox 14.3.0.3

        • Chrome 141.0.7390.55

        • Opera 122.0.5643.92

        • Tor Browser 13.5.7

With regards to the Pain Points listed below, that’s fine when you’re doing a specific search, but if you’re searching all of a seller’s items, as I tend to do (filtering by Buy It Now, Make Offer, Auctions, etc.). that info is unnecessary.

It isn’t specific info I’m looking for, it’s the ease of visually processing the listings. Maybe it’s a function of getting older and not having the patience to go through a single file vertical row, as opposed to multiple listings per horizontal rows. In my case the column to the right of the listings (Category, Publisher, Main Character, etc.) is unnecessary and takes up valuable real-estate on the page. Depending on the size of the window, it takes up to 25% - 33% of the window. A drop down menu (in which you can select multiple items) would be better suited.

Suggestion would be to have the option to revert to “classic” view (and save that setting in your account settings as default view/layout)

    OK. Thanks.

This will be my last week of bidding/purchasing anything on HipComic.

I don’t bid 1 hour before end of auction. I bid throughout the week. That temporary functionality is useless to me.

    Back to eBay.

agree with everyone else, new desktop layout is unusable and awful. I do not see the reason to change it. The old layout was efficient and could be adjusted by the user. Honestly, who designed this thing? Not to be nasty about it, but its pretty amateurish.
